ACTORS’ & ENTERTAINERS’ BENEVOLENT FUND OF QUEENSLAND

WHERE QUEENSLAND PERFORMING ARTS PROFESSIONALS TURN to when IN CRISIS OR IN NEED

Every year, Australian performers make thousands of free appearances in support of deserving charities. But who looks after the performers in need? We do.

As Queensland’s leading performing arts charity, the Actors’ & Entertainers’ Benevolent Fund has provided emergency assistance to hundreds of our members since 1975.

The Actors’ & Entertainers’ Benevolent Fund (Qld) Inc. (ABF Qld) is a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission.

About abf qld

ABF Qld was established in 1975 with a donation of $500 from the Actors’ Benevolent Fund of NSW. Since then, the volunteer committee of ABF Qld has assisted - and continues to assist - our performers and arts workers who have fallen on hard times.

The Inaugural and Founding President of ABF Qld was the late Alan Edwards AM MBE JP, who has also acted as the founding Artistic Director of Queensland Theatre Company. Alan Edwards was involved with ABF Qld for over twenty years, serving as President from 1975 – 1994.

The fund provided me with very generous support not solely financially but also through offering me alternatives and other support networks to be able to navigate through an unexpected and incapacitating injury. As my work life has started to steady, I look forward to being able to return the generosity I received. It was invaluable and I would not have been able to support myself without their help.

As a victim of the 2011 Brisbane floods, I was financially and emotionally unprepared for the hardships of natural disaster. The ABF were there for me. I was offered emergency funds to help get my life back on track. And, knowing I had the moral support from my community meant more than words can say. Thank you for your unconditional benevolence.

The ABF acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands on which we live, work and travel. We pay our respects to Elders both past, present and emerging and acknowledge the substantial contribution Elders have made to better our communities and future.
